A lot of people use the phrase “productivity hack” as if it were synonymous with the word “trick.” That’s not exactly true. If I told you that there was a trick to making your bed each morning, you’d probably think something like this:

A productivity hack is simply any tool, shortcut, system – anything at all really – that gives you an edge in implementing such a strategy . Getting into more specific examples is a little easier: you could go on Quora and find some of the most popular “productivity hacks,” like eating the frog first, which means doing your hardest task(s) right away; using tools like Wunderlist, which encourages users to add tasks in batches instead of one-by-one so you don’t have small tasks hanging over your head all day long; or implementing something called GTD (getting things done), which involves striking a good balance between having too many active projects going at once and being in a state of paralysis because you’re afraid to start new ones.

That’s just a few examples off the top of my head, but if I had to summarize it in my own words, I’d say a productivity hack means “making the most of your time and energy during the day by using what you already know to speed things up.” And really, that’s just another way of saying “being more efficient,” which is something we could all benefit from on a daily basis.
